Being Vegan, Vegan Being: Aaron Francis – I Never Struggled, because I am Committed to the Victims

Tell us a little about yourself.

I live in Northamptonshire, UK. I Race in triathlons from sprint to Olympic and up to IRONMAN distance races, I spend most of my time training. Instagram: @thepowerofpma

When I’m not training, I spend time chanting and meditating I stick to my daily Sadhana as much as I can (spiritual practice). I also sing in a hardcore punk band Internal War who have just re-formed and are looking to get out and play again later this year after recording a new album.

What lead you to veganism? How long ago?

I have been vegan for almost 7 years and what lead me here was actually straight edge – which is a sub culture within the hardcore punk scene, it was a big warm welcome for to get off drugs and turn my back on myself destructive lifestyle, as i was healing my consciousness deepened and i started to question eating animals and listening to bands that were about the same message helped me and encouraged me to watch films and do my own research This is when I  discovered the horrors of the slaughterhouse and documentaries like earthlings.

When you first went vegan how did you phase out your non-vegan food, clothing and other items?

I simply stopped buying animal products and promised id never eat meat or dairy again.

Do you make any exceptions for yourself or if you are married with kids – your family, when it comes to veganism?

No exceptions. My Girlfriend and mother of my 5-month-old son is vegan my son has been raised vegan and will continue to be, my mother just kicked her weight loss in the ass by switching to a vegan diet and is now out running three times a week

Do you believe we should show children the process of how animals are turned into meats?

Yes! Children are the most compassionate and are less conditioned, teaching them how animals are treated and used for ‘’food” naturally they will not want to eat that instead the evil companies get away with it by wrapping it up neat and calling it a ‘’Happy Meal’’

What does being vegan mean to you? For example, does it extend to not killing bugs and bees? Does it include not patronizing vegan companies owned by non-vegan parent companies? Does it affect the way you treat other humans?

Vegan to me is about resisting injustice and living as compassionately and ethically as we can based on our own personal life circumstances, I love the fact there are more options out there for vegans but a lot of companies are just diversifying for marketing purposes, do I truly believe they care? no I do not. Also, don’t be a douche bag and leave the insects alone.

Is it every vegan’s duty to become an activist?

If that’s your thing then great but if not, there are other non-confrontational ways of putting out the message and exposing the truths of the meat and dairy industry. I was a hunt saboteur for three years and went on protests ETC… But that Environment became very toxic for me and started to wear me down. I now promote a wholefood plant-based diet and veganism through my actions and race performances.

How compassionate or empathetic are you towards non-vegans?

Everybody is on their own path have compassion toward those who are not yet on the same one as yours.
