Being Vegan, Vegan Being: The Raw Frenchy – What You’re Doing is Full of Love and Peace

What lead you to veganism? How long ago?

I have had an autoimmune disease since I am 2 years old, and this year I had a new crisis, my mum told me about a center where they teach you how to eat “living” food. I went there and it changed my life. I converted to veganism early in February 2018, during my stay in that living food center. I didn’t even realize that I was becoming vegan until my Yoga teacher told me at the end of my stay. And I thought “wow, I feel with so much energy, I am so happy, I follow values that matter to me, it was quite easy, this is so wonderful !”

When you first went vegan how did you phase out your non-vegan food, clothing and other items?

When I came back home, I was disgusted with industrial food, animal food, remembering how bad it is for my body, the animals, and the environment. Regarding the items, I am lucky, I do not have a lot of items where animals are involved. So it was ok.

Do you make any exceptions for yourself or if you are married with kids – your family, when it comes to veganism?

My husband is not vegan or vegetarian, but he accepts this food at home. So at home, we never buy meat, fish, cheese, milk etc…But when we go to the restaurants or at friends places, he eats what he wants. Regarding the children, we do not have children yet, but we plan to have for next year, and he totally agree to teach them about veganism and to feed them on a vegan diet. After we wanted to be an open family if when they are 12 they want to test or eat animals, I will respect their choice and love them no matter what.

Do you believe we should show children the process of how animals are turned into meats?

I do not know if it is necessary to show them that. I think that when they are young if you teach them to love all kind of animal, to see that they have feelings and are like each of us, and deserve a happy life it is enough. I think that it is easier for a child to be vegan because they have this unlimited love for life. It is not natural to kill or to love eating killed food. In fact, when we were children, nobody told us where the chicken in our plate came from.

What does being vegan mean to you?

Well, I do not kill bugs or bees, there is no point to do that. But for example, I can use the honey because I do not have the feeling that bees suffer or exploits. I mean they can fly, they are not in a cage (maybe I am wrong and I should learn more about that). Then to be honest with you, I prefer vegan products, but I do not know if it is owned by non-vegan people. And If it was a non-vegan owner, even if they eat meat, at least they invest time and money on a good cause, so it is a start for me. And it definitely affects the way I treat human and life in general. I think we all deserve love, respect, nonviolence, and I want to spread that message to everybody.

Is it every vegan’s duty to become an activist?

Well, I think it is good to spread good vibes and a good message. After I will not blame a vegan for being vegan and not sharing it with the world because I think we all have different personalities, and for some people, it is not that easy to explain their choice, to convince others. And only by being vegan you are already active toward the planet and the animals according to me.

I am not really in favor of an aggressive message. I think we all react badly when someone tries to force us to change our mind. I think it goes on both way and that it is easier to bring someone to your cause if you do it with impartial explanation and kindness.

How compassionate or empathetic are you towards non-vegans?

I consider everybody with respect, I think we all evolute differently and for some it will take a long time to change a habit, to accept that they are responsible and need to do something. Most of the non-vegan are not even aware of all the consequences of their diet, so we cannot blame them. We can just explain to them, try to cook them delicious vegan food to show them that it is a good diet, and we spread in them this vegan message that one day will grow up and the seed will become a tree :). But it took time and we must respect the fact that we are not all as
