Inspirational Moments: Jackie Cecil – Spread kindness. Maybe it will catch on.

What is your Passion?

As cliche as it sounds, my passion is to help others. When I was younger, before “life” happened and sent me down a different path, I wanted to be a counselor in with the Youth Authority, or as it’s commonly known, “Juvie.” I wanted to help the kids see a different part of life. I wanted to be able to reach them before “life” happened to them, and they were unable to choose a different path. Where I grew up, most kids were in gangs before they were out of middle school and more than a handful of those didn’t live to see graduation. I felt that if I could reach them, help them, talk to them, maybe some of them could come back and be happy souls again. Today my passion is raising my four boys and creating strong yet humble men.

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by happy, old people. I figure they have lived long lives and been through a series of up and downs and yet, through it all, they are still smiling. They’ve learned to appreciate the good parts of life and discard the bad. They live for each day and make the most of it. They don’t worry about fashion or fancy things. They don’t care who has the latest iPhone or gadget. And yet, they are happy. We could all learn something from the elderly.

Which person living or dead has inspired you the most?

My parents, whom both passed away much much too young in their lives, were my biggest inspirations. While I didn’t realize it then, everything they did was for the good of their family. They worked hard. Back then, I thought way too hard. My sister and I never went without. They taught me loyalty, respect, and sacrifice. They taught me there was honor in a days work and it didn’t matter if you wore a suit and went to an office or coveralls and picked up trash. We were all equal because we worked for what we had, and what we had was enough.

What is your favorite Inspirational Quote?

“And in the end, the love we take is equal to the love we make.” Lennon-McCartney

How do you try to inspire others?

I don’t know that I actually inspire or try to inspire others. I try to work hard and be the best mom I can be, I put my children before myself and consider the thoughts and feelings of others before I speak or act. I teach my boys to appreciate their lives, the things around them and every person they encounter – regardless of who they are or what they do or do not have. And, if that happens to inspire someone then it’s all the better.

When are you the happiest?

When I’m around my family.

One non-profit you support?

I support a few different non-profits, primarily a few tied to Cancer research. But my favorite non-profit it M.E.N.D (Meet Each Need with Dignity) Which is an amazing organization in Pacoima, CA. They provide a number of free services and assistance to families and individuals in need within the community. MEND provides everything from daily meals, food boxes to take home, dental and vision care, clothes, education and much more. I wish we had MEND in every community.
