This Inspirational Moment brought to you by, Charlie Reid. San Francisco, CA.
What is your Passion?
Being a fitness Imagineer. (I borrowed the term from Disney). I like to draw from other disciplines outside of health and fitness and then bring them into the health and fitness community. I strive to help others to keep innovating and evolving in an ever-changing culture.
What inspires you?
I’m inspired by outside-the-box thinkers. Folks who are not afraid to put themselves out there, even if their thinking is radical and perhaps challenged by the public. On the other side of the coin, i am inspired by critical thinkers and open-minded skeptics who keep their humility compass facing as close to true north as possible.
Which person living or dead has inspired you the most?
Moshe Feldenkrais comes to mind. He was a true Polymath, and way ahead of his time. Not only did he have a very rough upbringing, but he was a pioneer in understanding the connection between our mind and body. I always go back to his writings year after year and learn something new, even though much of his writings were written a half-century ago.
What is your favorite Inspirational Quote?
“Scar tissue is stronger than regular tissue. Realize the strength, move on.” -Henry Rollins
How do you try to inspire others?
I strive to work with others by navigating on their map while trying to guide them outside of their map to places i think might be useful to them. So often we get stuck because our perspective is limited by our own experiences.
When are you the happiest?
Training or competing. I learn a lot about myself and really get exposed to who i am underneath my well-composed nature. As a hyper-rational person, i think it’s important that i get in touch with the more visceral side of myself. The way i do that is by training or competing.
One non-profit you support?
Breast Cancer Action. I had a client years ago who passed away from Breast cancer and i learned a lot about the topic as well as how non-profits are structured. Let’s just say that not all area created equal. In this case, “Think before you pink!”. http://bcaction.org
Quick Tip: What is one easy thing you can do to change the world for good in the next 24 hours?
Connect with one person a day. This doesn’t mean a casual “hello”. This means actually putting down your phone and taking a genuine interest in someone you’ve never met before.
