This Inspirational Moment brought to you by Jocelyn Sherman of Los Angeles, CA.
What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to go through in your life?
Probably moving out to California when Cesar Chavez asked me to work for him as that meant leaving my family and establishing a whole new world without knowing that many people.
What did you learn from it that you could pass on to someone else?
You can fit in anywhere if you be yourself and are open to new opportunities. What I thought would be a four months thing totally changed my life and established who I am today.
What has been the Happiest Moment of your life?
It’s impossible to define one moment. I’m lucky to have a lot of moments. There are a billion family moments such as when my niece was born or other special memories. Or it could be health and fitness stuff such as when my local gym class crowned me Turbo Queen in recognition of all the weight I lost and how I turned my health around. Or so many other work or friend-related memories
What is your Passion?
I can’t limit myself to one passion. I think it used to be work period. I think it used to be work as I love working for a cause and doing good work. But that isn’t enough you also have to take care of yourself and your own life. Tennis is a passion for me. So is art, specifically photography. I’ve been lucky enough to have some Museum shows and do something with my college major. Exercise and health are also passions. I turn myself from an overweight workaholic who was on the ton of meds because I wasn’t taking care of my body into a very balanced person at a normal weight and most importantly healthy and Medicine free because I took care of myself.
What inspires you?
Doing good and helping others whether it’s with work, health or friendships.
What is your favorite Inspirational Quote?
I was a weird kid with a very high reading level and I think I was in sixth grade when I read Frederick Nietzsche and discovered my mantra in life which is, “That which does not kill me makes me stronger.”
How do you try to inspire others?
I don’t try to inspire others. I live a good life and just try to be myself. I think you inspire by example, versus trying to change other people.
One non-profit you support?
That’s easy, the United Farm Workers. I’ve been working for the UFW since Cesar recruited me right out of college and New York City around 27 or 28 years ago
What is one easy thing you can do to change the world for good in the next 24 hours?
Be there for my friends.
