Being Vegan, Vegan Being – Nicolette – I Go Out of My Way to Give Love and Live Love.

I’m Nicolette. I like to describe myself as a mom, social worker, spiritual seeker, nerd, and overall weirdo. I’m always the first one to feel the energy, break out tarot cards and crystals, have a full blown convo about Stat Wars, wing my eyeliner like no one’s business and rub oils on you. I’m obsessed with essential oils and have my own business. Young living Oils.

The starter kit which is an amazing value can pretty much replace your medicine cabinet. The diffusers are gorgeous and scent your home beautifully. I have found ways to help ailments and make my home smell amazing and keep it nontoxic. It totally meshed with my lifestyle. Cruelty-free, natural, clean living. I became Vegan almost a year ago. I had one set back but as I learned in my spiritual seeking, I forgave myself and moved on. Vegan for life.

When you first went vegan how did you phase out your non-vegan food, clothing and other items?

I pretty much went 100% Vegan when it came to food. I loved looking online for recipes and going to the supermarket and trying it all. It was all about trial and error. Liked some things, some others not so much. I went to all the veg fests in my area which I loved!!!! It was extra inspiring to see so many vegans in one place. With clothing and makeup, I started from where I was. I didn’t buy anything leather anymore. I never ever even before being vegan owned anything fur. Makeup I started buying only vegan brands: Kat Von D and NYX are my favs. I’m a makeup fanatic ♥️

Do you believe we should show children the process of how animals are turned into meats?

I don’t make exceptions for myself. I’m a single mom and my 13-year-old son loves checking out my Instagram and going to all the fests. We have a blast together.

What does being vegan mean to you? For example, does it extend to not killing bugs and bees? Does it include not patronizing vegan companies owned by non-vegan parent companies? Does it affect the way you treat other humans?

My first reason for becoming vegan was my love of animals. I saw videos online and knew I couldn’t add to the torture of animals. How can I sleep with my cat and dog in my bed and eat a pig for dinner? It makes me sad that the majority of people just don’t get that connection.

I always treat humans in a golden rule way. Treat others the way you want to be treated. I go out of my way to give love and live love. Anger is a waste of time.

Is it every vegan’s duty to become an activist?

I think everyone has a right to do what they feel is best. I don’t like to judge others. I believe people can make a difference in so many different ways. Myself, I am vegan, I have a vegan Instagram page and I volunteer at a local animal shelter. I am proud and will continue my efforts in any way I can.

How compassionate or empathetic are you towards non-vegans?

I believe everyone has their choices in life. Do I believe we should torture and eat animals, no? Will I promote veganism, Yes. Always.

Earthlings is the best and the most amazing piece of work ever. I can’t understand how anyone could watch it and then go eat a hot dog. It hit me in the heart and soul. I also loved Okja. I cried my eyes out during both.

What’s your favorite Vegan restaurant?

I love that Bareburger has the Impossible Burger, The Yard House has Gardein meals and there is an awesome restaurant in Rye, NY called Rosemary and Vine that is vegetarian but accommodates my vegan needs.

Please share your favoriturmericn recipe?

You can do it. If you fall get back up again. I think that advice is universal.

I live about 40 min from NYC, I don’t go often. In Westchester NY there are not a lot of all vegan restaurants but many have vegan options and accommodate well.

What personal recommendations can you make for people to meet other vegans?

Vegan festivals 100% I love them so much. I plan them months in advance. What I’m gonna eat and wear. I’m usually sporting one of my many vegan tees!

What does living cruelty-free mean to you? Does it extend to the way you as a vegan treats other humans too?

Cruelty free is living a life without any products that use animals in anyway. period. I also believe living a life of love over fear always. Love one another. If everyone did that more the world would be a happier place.

What are you favorite Vegan non-food products or companies?

Kat Von D is my all time fav makeup company. Kat is a vegan, herself so she knows! I love a lot of vegan clothing companies like Vegan Power Co, Bubblegump1nk and Vegetaryn.

What is the toughest Vegan item to find that you need?

I have to say it’s pretty easy to find almost everything. I am not 100% in love with the available vegan frozen pizzas.

Talk about a time when you struggled with your Veganism?

I had one set back but quickly came back to veganism. Vegan for life now!

I do find when I go to a restaurant and my only option is lettuce with tomatoes or fries. It does irritate me that vegan options are not incorporated everywhere. I have seen menus that are all meat and cheese and that makes me sad. When I want to order a salad and it’s mostly cheese and meat and dairy dressings it’s like WTF. I want veggies and avocado and chick peas and some falafel 🙂
