My name is Dominique. I was born in Sarasota, FL and currently live in Miami Beach, FL. I just launched a new blog, www.radicallyvegan.com which will focus on helping others transition to a vegan lifestyle. Many people express their interest in becoming vegan but simply do not know how I am excited to be a resource to help guide them. I also enjoy working out (spin class, yoga, jogging) hanging with my 2 dogs Oliver and Manny, trying all of the vegan restaurants in Miami, and of course the beach!
What was the moment you realize that you wanted to go vegan?
I have always loved animals but never made the connection until I saw FOOD INC. It was a traumatizing yet eye-opening experience that changed my life forever. I went vegan the next day, it was the best decision I have ever made.
How long have you been Vegan?
4 1/2 years.
Why is being Vegan important to you?
I consider myself an ethical vegan, I wholeheartedly believe that animals are here with us, not for us, they feel pain and get scared just as we do. Inflicting fear and harm onto another living being is immoral and unnecessary considering the abundance of wonderful cruelty-free alternatives.
Do you have a blog or favorite vegan blog you read?
Any recommended Vegan books?
I love reading THRIVE Magazine! Definitely, recommend checking it out if you haven’t already, you can find it at Wholefoods! My real jam is podcasts, you can catch me listening to one every time I am cruising in the Prius. My favorite PC is The Rich Roll Podcast, all of his guests are paradigm breaking badasses! Tune in and your brain will thank you later!
Any recommended social sites, Facebook Groups or other?
I am a member of the Vegans United Facebook group, it is such a fantastic community! My personal favorites are Instagram and Tumblr, I love all my cool veg friends on both!
Do you have a favorite movie or videos or your own media that you want to share?
Forks Over Knives, Food Choices, and Cowspiracy are a few of my favorites. I often recommend them to friends and people wanted to learn more about becoming vegan. They’re so informative and not too graphic.
Do you actively promote veganism?
I am THAT VEGAN GIRL everywhere I go! I am so passionate about the lifestyle that I always bring it up somehow, haha! For instance, I recently started a new job and 80% of my new teammates are approaching me asking if I can help them become vegan, there are words to describe how happy it makes me! I also promote veganism on my blog www.radicallyvegan.com, Instagram @Radically.Vegan, Tumblr @MsRadicallyVegan and of course I am always down to share a meal at a fabulous vegan restaurant with anyone who is curious to try it out, or just hungry!
Do you miss any non-Vegan foods?
With incredible treats like Ben & Jerry’s P.B. & Cookies ( Dangerously delicious!) and BOLDs Pizza….. how could I miss anything?!
What is your favorite Vegan meme?
What is your favorite Vegan stereotype? If someone asks you a question about it, how do you respond?
My favorite stereotype is that we are lacking in protein! “WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR PROTEIN FROM?” If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me that, I’d have a lifetime supply of avocados! I always inform them that It’s almost impossible to be protein deficient. Rather, though, 95% people are actually fiber deficient.
What’s your favorite Vegan restaurant?
What’s your favorite recipe? Please share it.
Something that I eat every night before bed is BANANA NICE CREAM! It is so easy, fast, and delicious, just the way I like it!
•2 Frozen Bananas
•1 TBL Cocoa Powder
•Dairy Free Choc Chips
•3 Seeded Dates
•Thrown it all in a blender and ENJOY!!!!!
What is the one big stereotype you hear about Vegans that you want to dispel?
I would like to dispel that WE DON’T ONLY EAT LETTUCE! Our food choices are boundless! When people say this to me I show them all of my appetizing food photos on my Instagram they can’t deny I’m eating goooodddd!!!
Some encouraging words for new Vegans?
Congrats on making the transition! So many amazing things will manifest from living this lifestyle. Reach out to vegan communities in your area and on social media, we are here for you! Immerse yourself into learning everything you can, Youtube is one of my favorite tools! If you need some guidance I am here for you too!
Are you a cruelty-Free vegan?
100% cruelty-free vegan all day every day!
What are you favorite Vegan non-food products or companies?
I love Dr. Bronner products, he is the man! For makeup I use Gabriel Cosmetics, it is brilliant for sensitive skin, organic, vegan, and found at Wholefoods!
What is the toughest Vegan item to find that you need?
I think a good vegan deodorant that actually works was a hard one, but I found that PiperWai works best!!!
Talk about a time when you struggled with your Veganism?
Personally, I have never struggled with my veganism. I feel amazing! Furthermore, I am so dedicated to this lifestyle because I am aware of how the meat and dairy industry tortured so many innocent beings & would never want to contribute to that.
