Being Vegan, Vegan Being: Brenden Fitzgerald – Founder of Planet Protein

Hello, my name is Brenden Fitzgerald and I currently reside in Fort Myers, Florida. After serving in the Marine Corps, in & out of different industries and not knowing what lies ahead, I can’t thank veganism enough for helping me find my true calling. I am now in the process of starting up a new vegan company called: Planet Protein. We provide quality plant-based protein bars without the harsh chemicals, preservatives or artificial taste. Our mission is to help fuel people with healthier alternatives while staying true to the planet! Tasty vegan protein is something people don’t have much access to, so we’re here to help. Going vegan and starting the company went hand in hand for me; it has truly been a blessing in disguise. So pumped to share with the world! Check us out on We are planning a soft-launch this October, soon to officially launch the New Year! Our new website will be up soon.

What was the moment you realize that you wanted to go vegan?

I’m one of those vegans who converted thanks to the films on Netflix. After watching Cowspiracy one night, my mind started to wander. A few days later, I was 100% vegan and Planet Protein was born.

How long have you been Vegan?

Going on 6 months now. Never been healthier, leaner or stronger in my life!

Why is being Vegan important to you?

Veganism to me is a lifestyle. It’s definitely not a burden, though. I don’t have to go out of my way to live the lifestyle I love. Most people think vegans eat grass or are malnourished. That’s definitely not the case and I want to help change that perception.

Do you have a blog or favorite vegan blog you read?

I don’t really have a favorite or dedicated blog I read. It’s more of social media and some natural sources. My Instagram feed is a necessity.

What is your favorite Vegan meme?

I love this meme because so many vegans can relate! I eat more now that I’m vegan than before.

What is your favorite Vegan stereotype?

Vegans don’t get adequate protein and can’t be fit. This is one of the more common stereotypes out there. I find it more comical now and just try to educate people and teach them the facts. Showing people you can thrive on a vegan diet and gain muscle is endearing!

What’s your favorite Vegan restaurant?

Unfortunately, there really aren’t many vegan restaurants in South West Florida  I tend to cook often and if we do go out, choose wisely! However, Burger 21 does make a mean black bean burger.

What’s your favorite recipe? Please share it.

This is a tough one because I love food. If I were to nail it down to one, it would have to be vegan pizza. This very simple recipe never fails. Make your crust, add sauce and pile on the veggies! Vegan cheese is optional but still super yummy without it.

What is the one big stereotype you hear about Vegans that you want to dispel?

Vegans can’t gain muscle. This one drives me each day to lift heavier and eat cleaner. I’m very passionate about fitness and my body, more so since I’ve gone vegan. I’ve always been athletic, but veganism has taken the athlete in me to new heights! One inspiration in my life is Torre Washington. The guy defines vegan bodybuilding & fitness.

Some encouraging words for new Vegans?

Try it for 2-3 weeks and tell me how you feel. You’ll lose weight, feel healthier and have more natural energy. You’ll start to kick old habits and your mind will become clearer. Some people think it’s a myth, but eating plant-based will change your life!

For sure! I’m a huge animal lover.

What is the toughest Vegan item to find that you need? Toothpaste, Deo, glue, etc.

Vegan belts!
