Being Vegan, Vegan Being: Bianca Adriana – Practicing Compassion in Every Little Thing I Do

Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Bianca Adriana! I live in Los Angeles, CA and am a California native. I first and foremost am a singer & rapper! I love music and it has gotten me through the toughest of obstacles. I’ve been singing my whole life; I actually started learning how to read through doing so much karaoke as a toddler. You can hear my covers and watch my comedy skits on my Youtube. Subscribe here.

Recently I’ve discovered a passion for rapping and lyricism through political hip-hop. Aside from my own music and covers, I have a side project with my boyfriend called JustUs. You can find out more about that at JustUsOfficailMusic.com . To follow my daily shenanigans, Instagram is the best place! My handle is @BiaAdriana and I post about California living, vegan lifestyle tips, and fashion in addition to my YouTube content.

What was the moment you realize that you wanted to go vegan?

I had been experiencing agonizing stomach pains for months. When I went sober from alcohol in 2020, the result was a complete change in my stomach and metabolism. I had lost almost 30 pounds and it was only getting worse as my stomach wasn’t accepting the food I was putting into it. I was the worst offender when it came eating meat and dairy and I hated vegetables. It never occurred to me (or my doctors) that the food I was eating was making me sick. I had finally watched What The Health and that was that. I had taken the information presented in the film then researched them. Knowing that cancer ran in the women of my family as well as diabetes, it had become extremely important to me reduce any health risks I could have in the future not only for myself but also for my family.

How long have you been Vegan?

Since August 1st, 2020

Why is being Vegan important to you?

At first, it was for my health but compassion is a quick and powerful side effect of being not eating animal products. Now, being vegan is more than just me and my family. It’s about the collective human consciousness and elevating ourselves above the unnecessary violence and mess that we create in this world.

Do you have a favorite movie or videos or your own media that you want to share?

Definitely, What The Health, Cowspiracy, Forks Over Knives, Food Inc., Earthlings, and more recently released Dominion. I also love a new song by singer Analise called “Free” whose music video in wildly impactful.

Do you actively promote veganism? How? Please share any stories you would like.

I promote veganism by trying to create an open dialogue for people on my Instagram to ask me any questions they have about being vegan. Additionally, I have participated in a cube demonstration with Anonymous for the Voiceless and definitely plan to do it again when time allows. I’d really like to start promoting veganism through my music and skits as well.

What is the vegan stereotype you hear the most and how do you respond to it?

“Where do you get your protein?” I always tell them that ALL protein originates from plants and show them the meme comparing steak and broccoli nutrition.

What’s your favorite Vegan restaurant?

That’s so hard but I’m so in love with H.O.P.E. Kitchen in Studio City, CA! The beefless garlic is incredible! For dessert, I’m all about Cinnaholic in Echo Park for yummy cinnamon rolls.

Some encouraging words for new Vegans?

Take it one step at a time and really listen to your body. It’s easy to give into cravings so remember that if you can self-discipline yourself in this area of your life, you can create self-discipline in others. Start by eating a lot of your favorite foods that are already vegan and take it from there.

What does living cruelty-free mean to you?

Being compassionate in every little thing you do and understanding that every consumer choice we make has an effect on someone. Cruelty-free is working toward ensuring those effects are only impactful in positive ways and that they don’t harm anyone or anything.

What are you favorite Vegan non-food products or companies?

I started using Maui Moisture shampoo and conditioner even before I officially become vegan and love it! For makeup, I absolutely adore LimeCrime lip colors and highlights.

Talk about a time when you struggled with your Veganism?

Working in the entertainment industry I get invited to a lot of upscale events with free food. Earlier in my vegan journey, I really struggled during one industry event to not eat free bacon wrapped dates which had always been a favorite of mine. I had come straight from class and was beyond hungry but I didn’t want to have to tell my boyfriend, who dedicated himself to being vegan with me, later that I had broken the promise to myself so it really helps when you have someone to help keep you accountable.

What is one question you would ask other Vegans?

What’s you’re favorite thing about being vegan? My answer: my ability to now love all creatures unconditionally while feeling the healthiest I’ve ever felt.
