Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Lauren, I live in New Jersey with my husband and two daughters (7 and 3). I have been vegan for over 11 years, my girls have been vegan since before birth, and my husband over a year now. I blog about our adventures, food, and mom life at NaturallyLauren.com and I share A lot of kids meals and food on my Instagram page @LaurenGinger.
What lead you to veganism? How long ago?
Over 11 years ago, I became A vegan after being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Mostly for health reasons but after, it became about the animals, our planet, and my health.
How many children do you have? Were they born vegan?
2 girls and yes, born vegan.
Did you have a vegan pregnancy? If so, how’d it go? Please share any challenges or victories.
Yes, two vegan pregnancies. I loved Being pregnant and felt my best. All my blood work was always perfect and I had Tons of energy throughout.
What are some of the challenges you find raising a vegan child? How have you dealt with these challenges?
The biggest challenges we have are school events and birthday parties. My daughter will bring her own cupcake and usually the parent will make sure to have cheeseless pizza for her. She doesn’t like to stand out, so that’s been the toughest part.
Do you believe we should show children the process of how animals are turned into products? How are you educating your child/children on veganism and compassion?
I do Believe we should but only when they are ready. I have not done so yet, but as teens, I would Have no problem showing them if they asked. My children love animals and know that they are not food to us. My younger daughter will tell people all the time that cows milk is for baby cows. Both of them have a strong love for animals, and I really Haven’t had to do much because they’ve now become vegans on their own and have never felt like there was an alternative.
What does being vegan mean to you?
Being vegan means doing no harm to any kind. We free bugs, just the way we would an animal. I find I’m more compassionate in all areas of my life because of It. I treat my Children with compassion in hopes they treat others the same.

Some encouraging words or advice for vegan parents.
Don’t let other parents get in your head. Do what feels best for you and your family.
Have you connected with other vegan families in your city? If so, how did you meet?
Unfortunately, I have Yet to meet another vegan fam near me!
Do you make any exceptions for your child’s veganism? School snacks? Family gatherings?
Nope, never! My kids don’t want to eat anything from animals and they are always careful about asking.
How do you think you will react if your is out with his/her friends and they eat animal products?
I think I would Ask them how they felt after. What they ate and asked them if they knew what it really was (cow, pig, etc).
