No Wonder You Were Afraid to Ask #52 – Lindsay Hill – My Life’s Goal is to Hear Someone Say: “Because of You, I didn’t give up.”

This Inspirational Interview brought to you by Lindsay Hill of in Hampton, Virginia.

I was born in Mayfield, NY. I moved on a whim for a guy and it didn’t work out, but things eventually fell into place so I never moved. I am a full-time student pursuing a B.S in Exercise Science, Air Force Reservist in the Air Transportation career field.

I am currently doing 22 hikes for Veteran Suicide. I started in June (PTSD awareness month) and hope to end by the end of September (Suicide Awareness month) #hike22 on IG 😊 You can follow me here on Instagram: @biceps_books_and _bullets and Facebook facebook.com/lindsaydangerzone

Fitness is my top priority; physical, mental, and spiritual. I feel that a lot of the problems people encounter today can be eased by being “fit” in all these categories. I chose hiking for my personal challenge because it is the way that I am able to maintain my fitness in all 3 categories by getting out there and blowing off some steam in a gorgeous atmosphere. I believe that true warriors have to fight to become warriors and that we are the ones who can help build up people who don’t think they have the strength to fight and make them warriors too. I think people forget sometimes that we all come from something and have had our own struggles. I strive to help people understand that even the strongest people struggle. Heck, I still do most days… but finding a purpose is what helps you survive and grow.

I am proud of the drive and determination I have. I am not sure where it comes from sometimes, but there have been so many times that I have wanted to give up and throw in the towel. Somehow I always get back up and keep trying, most of the time I eventually succeed, the other times I am still working on 😉

It is important for people to know that when you look at someone, your opinion strikes on a surface that is only skin deep. A picture can be worth 2020 words, and a story can be as many as it is, but not everyone depicts their life as accurately as they could. I STRUGGLE. I HURT. I FEEL PAIN TOO. I want people to stop saying “must be nice” and “it’s easy for you,” because we all started at the beginning. All I have ever wanted is for people to be inspired by me and be motivated. My biggest goal in life is for someone to come up to me someday and say: “Because of you, I didn’t give up.”

Bonus Questions

What is one attribute you got from your Mom? How has it been a benefit to your life?

Independence. It helps get me what I want when I have no one.

One person living or dead you would love to hang out with for a day? What would you do? If I could have one day,

I would take my ex-boyfriend, Jesse Matt Lyon, out to Niagara Falls for the day. He was the most amazing high-spirited kid you could ever meet. While he was stationed in Ballston Spa, NY for training at the Nuclear Prototype he said he had never been and we were going to go for my birthday. We were young and dumb, so we got in a fight and called it off just weeks before that. I wish I knew I would never see him again, but it taught me never to hold grudges and to always say how you feel. One day you might not get the chance.

Do you think humans should be concerned about the planet?

Absolutely! Mother nature gives us so much, we should respect her and take care of her in return <3

What is one attribute you got from your Dad? How has it been a benefit to your life?

Stubborn little hot head… It helps me fight for what I want when the odd are against me,

What has the greatest loss in your life been?

Losing my aunt, grandfather, and Jesse. I can’t place any one of them over the other, but I do know those were the absolute hardest times in my life.

What makes you laugh?

Cheesy jokes and puns, especially if they are science related because I am kind of a nerd.

What is the number one reason you doubt yourself?

Mainly because I feel like people have always expected me to fail. I also always worry that I will look stupid If I fail so I always get really nervous trying something new.

What one personality trait do you think you could work on to make it more positive?

My self esteem. I seem very bubbly and people always look up to me but they never see how freakin terrified I really am of messing up and getting hurt.

Have you ever had a near death experience?

A few times. I have flipped over my handlebars on my bike and broken my helmet on the temple, walked through and underground beehive, and avoided a terrible car accident where the car to my right swerved into the median to my left side. I am a lucky girl.

Why is reading books so important?

Stories help build the imagination and stimulate your mind. It can be helpful to remember history and paint a picture of how things used to be in the past, and it gives the writer some respect for their work.

Tell me about a time you were bullied.

All the time growing up, clear through high school. I was always picked on by kids my age, especially my cousin and my sister and their friends/classmates. I was the smart kid and I always liked alternative styles. I don’t know that I really had any real friends or if people just wanted my homework answers.

What is your favorite tree?

Why? I love pine trees. The smell, the color, and the way they remind me of home. I love Christmas, so picking out my own to cut down is one of my favorite activities.

What one word would people use to describe you?

Inspirational. (coincidence, I know 😊 ) I have a tendency to motivate and inspire people based on how open and free I am about how hard I have worked and the struggles I have overcome to get where I am. There is something empowering to someone who is just beginning to know that their role model had to work for it. I think it makes them see that their goals are possible.
