No Wonder You Were Afraid to Ask #47 – Johnny Gonzalez – My Hope is to Promote the Feminization of the Construction Industry

This Inspirational Interview brought to you by Johnny Gonzalez, age 32 from Biloxi, Mississippi. Johnny works as the Program Manager, at the Moore Community House– for the organization, Women In Construction

Women In Construction from Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation on Vimeo.

Johnny said, “I”m from California by way of Nicaragua. I live in Biloxi, MS. I moved here after Hurricane Katrina.”

“I believe that it’s important for society to recognize the importance of providing jobs to well-trained, capable and driven women in predominantly male-driven industries such as construction. Women make up half the country’s population but hold more than 75% of the country’s minimum wage jobs. My goal is to promote gender equity and equality and the feminization of the construction industry. I’m not, by any means, a special individual. I think I got lucky and figured out what I loved to do which is help people and was presented the ability to do so. It has become a selfish passion of mine to watch people achieve their goals. I don’t consider myself a good or bad person, I think life is too long and too short to ever try and lump one or the other together. I don’t want to live forever but I hope my work lasts at least a lifetime.”
