This Inspirational Moment brought to you by Gwendolyn Pentland – Chicago, Illinois
What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to go through in your life?
I’ve had bouts of severe depression. Recently I’ve been suffering from chronic migraines that have been devastating. But, I’ve managed to soldier through and carry on.
What did you learn from it that you could pass on to someone else?
Depression is devastating but can be manageable. I’ve learned to use resources that are available and to recognize that not everyone will understand depression. But, I also learned that life can be fantastically funny, beautiful and completely worth living. I’m happy to be a resource if someone is going through a bout of depression. If you or someone you know needs immediate assistance, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
What has been the Happiest Moment of your life?
There are so many! But the day I married Casey Freund, my best friend, is my happiest moment! It was a great day filled with love, laughter, and liveliness.
What is your Passion?
I am passionate about design. I LIVE for mid century modern, art deco, and quirky Victorian and Edwardian pieces. I also adore estate sales and thrift stores!
What inspires you?
Nature inspires me constantly! I love trees and grasses, flowers and quirky hedges. I miss the mountains and high plains of Wyoming, but I love the variety of trees and flowers that abound in Chicago!
What is your favorite Inspirational Quote?
“Choose your corner, pick away at it carefully, intensely and to the best of your ability and that way you might change the world.” – Charles Eames
How do you try to inspire others?
I try to be as kind as possible. I also try and share artists, designers, and unusual tv shows that people may have never heard of. You never know what may inspire someone else. That’s something that’s exciting and fun for me!
One non-profit you support?
What is one easy thing you can do to change the world for good in the next 24 hours?
One thing I always encourage is to go see a live performance! Go to the theatre! Go see a dance performance, or an opera, or a staged reading, or an open mic night! Go to a charity event or a gallery opening! You will have fed your soul and supported artists. That truly makes the world a better place!
