What was the moment you realize that you wanted to go vegan?

It was a gradual change over time but the nail in the coffin moment of my meat eating days was watching the documentary Cowspiracy. It hit me really hard and woke me up completely. I remember just sitting with my dog welling up with tears.

How long have you been Vegan?

2 years now almost 3 and never looking back.

Why is being Vegan important to you?

It’s important because I feel deeply that this is how we as human beings are meant to be on this earth. In harmony with all life rather than as beings of destruction, recklessly destroying all forms of life and the planet along with it. On my website www.leookorie.com, I offer people personal training and life coaching but I do it coming from a plant-based background. I aim to show people what is truly possible once you get beyond the myths about a plant-based life. Wherever you are in the world reach out and I can help you to get in the best shape physically and mentally without causing pain, suffering or death to the lives of other beings.

Any recommended Vegan books?

One really good cookbook I have which was bought for me by my wife is “Thug Kitchen.” She’s been a great support along my journey. They have a trailer for it on youtube that’s hilarious.

Any recommended social sites, Facebook Groups or other?

I have an Instagram profile @leookorie_fitlife on there I post videos giving people tips and motivation to help them along their journey. I’ve met some truly great ones along my vegan journey and look forward to meeting much more. Connect with me and follow me on there.

Do you actively promote veganism? How? Please share any stories you would like.

I do in ways which people stop to notice and think about their actions. For example, I like to wear clothing that has a message clear for people to see. Such as “Eat Beans not Beings” “All Lives Matter” “Powered by Plants”. Little things like that and when you add all of those up it makes a lot.

What is your favorite Vegan meme?

There are so many. But these two are so funny yet true. (Yep even the alien one haha).

What is the vegan stereotype you hear the most and how do you respond to it?

The one I get is, all vegans are weak, protein deficient! I respond by that’s funny as I can lift more weight than you, have more muscle mass than you, lower body fat deposits than you hmm! Ok, buddy sure.

What’s your favorite Vegan restaurant?

Don’t have one but love all the vegan restaurants I’ve tried and happy when I hear that new ones are opening up all the time.

Please share your favorite vegan recipe?

Quinoa Chilli has to be one of my favourite recipes. It tastes so good. I posted a video of how to make it on my Instagram profile so please check it out.

Some encouraging words for new Vegans?

Always remember you are part of something far bigger than many are yet to grasp. You are speaking for those who don’t speak the human language but understand and speak the universal language of love. Stay strong, keep moving forward on your journey and above all, keep loving.

What does living cruelty-free mean to you?

It gives me a clear conscious. Knowing that I walk a path of peace and love for all life.

This is slightly off the question but on cigarette packets in some country’s they have illustrated pictures on the packets showing how bad they are for your health. I really wish they would do something similar to meat packets showing the cruelty destruction of how the meat is produced. I think if more people saw it they would change.

What are you favorite Vegan non-food products or companies?

Yazahi” is a vegan clothing brand that sports awesome and one other that is food based but wanted to mention is “Planet protein”. They produced awesome vegan protein snacks.

What is the toughest Vegan item to find that you need?

Initially, it was sports supplements but now I know a tonne of different companies and can point people in the right direction when they need sports supplements.

Talk about a time when you struggled with your Veganism?

When I first became vegan, I got teased a lot by friends and family that thought I was being stupid, selfish (yep selfish) all sorts of stuff I was called. I didn’t allow it to change my mind. Once I had that initial awakening there was no looking back. I look back on my life now and I can say becoming vegan was one of the best things I ever did. Since then things have changed. More and more of the people I know are now going down the plant-based path.

What is one question you would ask other Vegans? Please answer it.

I often ask things such as where did you get such and such a clothing product or something they were eating from so I can add to my list of useful places. I am quite a minimalist but I like to have and share information with others on this journey. I have always believed in the simple message “together we are always stronger”.
