Being Vegan, Vegan Being: Johnny Douglas – Being Vegan Means to Love and Care for Every Soul on Our Beautiful Earth

Tell us a little about yourself.

I absolutely love everything outdoors nature, traveling and just being around people. I’m born and raised here in Tampa Florida and I love it. I currently work full time in insurance but my angle is to own a vegan cafe one day soon. Right now, I cater Vegan food and desserts on the weekends or whenever I can find a vending event in my local area. I also have a YouTube channel called the hungry vegan where I show individuals how to eat vegan on a budget, and vegan friendly items while traveling.

What lead you to veganism? How long ago?

What lead me to becoming vegan is a wonderful question I still think about that often. I was sitting down one day just looking at nature how the bees seemed to work together the creatures in the wild seemed to respond to one another and also respond to me. That’s when I knew that every living being has a soul and deserves a chance to live.

When you first went vegan how did you phase out your non-vegan food, clothing and other items?

So, I started going through all the steps about 2 years ago I started just eating fish, then vegetarian, and finely just this year January I became fully vegan. When going vegan I phased out of foods that I used to love by going on YouTube and finding alternatives. I also started going to local farmers markets and supporting more small businesses that grow their own foods. By using natural herbs to season my food instead of tons of salt I was immediately fascinated.

What does being vegan mean to you?

Being vegan to me means loving and caring for every single soul on our beautiful earth. Becoming vegan has honestly changed my whole perspective on how I talk to people, what brings me joy, and how I can make people feel just as amazing.

What is the vegan scene like in your city?

The vegan scene In my city at first was nonexistent so I had to find other alternatives by going to my favorite Mexican restaurants and ordering a side of rice and guacamole which got old really fast. Now Tampa has really transformed and they have a few vegan restaurants that I love but my favorite has to be Farmacy market. When I’m not eating out I’m always cooking in house with fresh herbs, veggies, and seasonings
