Being Vegan, Vegan Being: Brenden Fitzgerald – Founder of Planet Protein

brenden-family-f

Hello, my name is Brenden Fitzgerald and I currently reside in Fort Myers, Florida. After serving in the Marine Corps, in & out of different industries and not knowing what lies ahead, I can’t thank veganism enough for helping me find my true calling. I am now in the process of starting up a new vegan company called: Planet Protein. We provide quality plant-based protein bars without the harsh chemicals, preservatives or artificial taste. Our mission is to help fuel people with healthier alternatives while staying true to the planet! Tasty vegan protein is something people don’t have much access to, so we’re here to help. Going vegan and starting the company went hand in hand for me; it has truly been a blessing in disguise. So pumped to share with the world! Check us out on instagram.com/planet_protein. We are planning a soft-launch this October, soon to officially launch the New Year! Our new website will be up soon. www.planetprotein.net

What was the moment you realize that you wanted to go vegan?

I’m one of those vegans who converted thanks to the films on Netflix. After watching Cowspiracy one night, my mind started to wander. A few days later, I was 100% vegan and Planet Protein was born.

How long have you been Vegan?

Going on 6 months now. Never been healthier, leaner or stronger in my life!

Why is being Vegan important to you?

Veganism to me is a lifestyle. It’s definitely not a burden, though. I don’t have to go out of my way to live the lifestyle I love. Most people think vegans eat grass or are malnourished. That’s definitely not the case and I want to help change that perception.

Do you have a blog or favorite vegan blog you read?

I don’t really have a favorite or dedicated blog I read. It’s more of social media and some natural sources. My Instagram feed is a necessity.

Any recommended Vegan books?

The Happy Vegan by Russell Simmons. Very down to earth read, that 99% of people can relate to.

Any recommended social sites, Facebook Groups or other?

Vegan bodybuilding & fitness, PETA, Natural News and One Green Planet. Our FB page is: facebook.com/planetproteinpage if you want to check us out.

Do you have a favorite movie or videos or your own media that you want to share?

I would recommend Vegucated. You will learn some nutrition and facts about where your meat is coming from. Hopefully, you go vegan cold turkey like I did!

Do you actively promote veganism? How? Please share any stories you would like.

Constantly. You can follow along on instagram.com/planet_protein or twitter.com/planet_protein. We usually post inspirational & motivational memes or pictures pertaining to veganism and overall health & wellness. Non-vegans are more than welcome!

Do you miss any non-Vegan foods?

Not one bit! Vegan food is so good; I don’t miss anything about meat or dairy. There are so many substitutes that are not only healthier options but better tasting as well!

What is your favorite Vegan meme?

I love this meme because so many vegans can relate! I eat more now that I’m vegan than before.

What is your favorite Vegan stereotype?

Vegans don’t get adequate protein and can’t be fit. This is one of the more common stereotypes out there. I find it more comical now and just try to educate people and teach them the facts. Showing people you can thrive on a vegan diet and gain muscle is endearing!

What’s your favorite Vegan restaurant?

Unfortunately, there really aren’t many vegan restaurants in South West Florida  I tend to cook often and if we do go out, choose wisely! However, Burger 21 does make a mean black bean burger.

What’s your favorite recipe? Please share it.

This is a tough one because I love food. If I were to nail it down to one, it would have to be vegan pizza. This very simple recipe never fails. Make your crust, add sauce and pile on the veggies! Vegan cheese is optional but still super yummy without it.

What is the one big stereotype you hear about Vegans that you want to dispel?

Vegans can’t gain muscle. This one drives me each day to lift heavier and eat cleaner. I’m very passionate about fitness and my body, more so since I’ve gone vegan. I’ve always been athletic, but veganism has taken the athlete in me to new heights! One inspiration in my life is Torre Washington. The guy defines vegan bodybuilding & fitness.

Some encouraging words for new Vegans?

Try it for 2-3 weeks and tell me how you feel. You’ll lose weight, feel healthier and have more natural energy. You’ll start to kick old habits and your mind will become clearer. Some people think it’s a myth, but eating plant-based will change your life!

Are you a cruelty-Free vegan?

For sure! I’m a huge animal lover.

What are you favorite Vegan non-food products or companies?

I’m a huge fan of Crazies and Weirdos. Their famous, “Eat What Elephants Eat,” t-shirt is awesome. The brand in itself is so personable and fun while educating the importance of going vegan. My girlfriend is a huge fan of 100& pure. Their entire brand is cruelty-free!

What is the toughest Vegan item to find that you need? Toothpaste, Deo, glue, etc.

Vegan belts!
