Tell us a little about yourself.
What lead you to veganism? How long ago?
I developed breast fibroadenomas about 4 years ago and my doctor couldn’t really offer any insight as to why my body was producing them. So I went to see a naturopath who recommended me to go plant-based.
When you first went vegan how did you phase out your non-vegan food, clothing and other items?
I literally became vegan overnight. I didn’t have time to phase it out slowly. I remember getting back from my naturopath’s office and literally put everything in the fridge in shopping bags and dropped them off at a local food bank and then I went straight to Whole Foods and bought only vegan food items. Soon after that I started educating myself on different materials in our clothes, shoes etc. and took out every piece that was made using animals materials and immediately transitioned my clothes to 38 pieces only and every single piece is vegan, sustainably and ethically made following fair trade practices.
Do you make any exceptions for yourself or if you are married with kids – your family, when it comes to veganism? For example, how strict are you with your children’s veganism at school or at family gatherings?
Nope, I am 100% Vegan.
Do you believe we should show children the process of how animals are turned into meats?
Absolutely, education and knowledge is power. That is how they can make an informed choice for themselves.
What does being vegan mean to you? For example, does it extend to not killing bugs and bees? Does it include not patronizing vegan companies owned by non-vegan parent companies? Does it affect the way you treat other humans?
I think the main principle of veganism to me is principle of nonharm. I’d like my daily choices to reflect kindness to not only the animals but also thepeople and environment.
Is it every vegan’s duty to become an activist?
Well by voting with your dollars and choose what to eat, wear and surround yourself with is essentially a form of activism. So I guess I would say that every vegan naturally is an activist.
How compassionate or empathetic are you towards non-vegans?
I think non-judgment is also a form of kindness. You can’t expect people to be where you are, you can only lead by example.
Any recommended Vegan books?
I read The China Study by T. Colin Campbell at the beginning of the vegan journey and it just totally made sense to me.

Au Lac DTLA, best vegan restaurant in town! A great melting pot for activism as well.
Please share your favorite vegan recipe?
Yikes, I don’t cook but I make a pretty good smoothie: kale, banana, spinach, coconut water, spirulina and wheatgrass.
Some encouraging words for new Vegans?
Going vegan was the most rewarding decision I’ve made. It completely transformed my life and body for the better.
What is the vegan scene like in your city?
Bustling and growing by leaps and bounds. It’s amazing to see so many vegans in LA.
What personal recommendations can you make for people to meet other vegans?
You are the company you keep so try to build a supportive community around you.
What does living cruelty-free mean to you? Does it extend to the way you as a vegan treats other humans too?
Absolutely! There’s no reason for us to be kind to animals and not to other people, even if they are not vegans.
What are you favorite Vegan non-food products or companies?
Currently, I am obsessed with this vegan shoe company @tastemakersupply.
What is the toughest Vegan item to find that you need?
I haven’t had any problem finding any vegan items. There’s an abundance of them in the city that I live in so I guess I am just lucky.
Talk about a time when you struggled with your Veganism?
I honestly never struggled with any parts of Veganism as a lifestyle. It was the most natural and healing transition for me. I never missed the food that I used to eat. As soon as I knew my why the rest fell into place very naturally.
