Performing on two towering 16′ aerial poles, savor the high production value of our life-sized jukebox, vintage fuel pump, and the rare, breathtaking giant martini glass.

In Part One of this two-part installment, we asked some of the Inspirational Artists behind this amazing show a few questions:

MONICA KAY

Hi! My name is Monica Kay and I’m the paint expert of Pinup Pole Show!

What did you dream of being when you grew up as a little kid?

When I was a kid, I dreamed of working with animals. I never knew exactly what that job would be, so I would usually just tell people “marine biologist”. Eventually, I would like to revisit that dream but instead of working with animals, I’d like to work for animals by educating others about veganism.

Does your family come to the show?

Sadly, my family does not come to the show. I am not a native Californian and my family is scattered all over the planet. I’m not close to my family, so I actually don’t know if they are even aware I’m in PPS!

Favorite vegan spots?

It’s hard to pick just one favorite vegan spot because I love all vegan places. Moby’s Little Pine, True Earth Juicery, Lotus Vegan, Sun Cafe, Kale and Quinoa, Real Food Daily, and VeStation are the first to come to mind.

Do you work on classic cars and if so, what’s your experience?

I do work on classics! I’ve been an airbrush artist longer than I’ve been a dancer, with over 10 years of automotive paint experience. I’ve worked in garages doing minor bodywork, paint prep, and clear coating in addition to custom paint jobs, some with custom airbrush graphics.

What makes this show different than any that might appear similar?

Pinup Pole Show is extremely different from other pole dance shows. Our company is a collective of women aerialists with talent outside of aerial arts. Singers, actors, artisans, danger arts, contortion, ballet, contemporary dance, gymnastics, comedy, and so much more is combined with pole dance and the flirty tease of pin-up style burlesque to gift our audience with a unique, immersive, and interactive 1960’s experience. In other shows, spectators only spectate. At PPS, our spectators are an important part of the show! They dress up in vintage clothes, they bring their classic cars and cast votes on their favorites, they win prizes or get a caricature drawn. Imagine an amazing dessert, for example, vegan cheesecake. How can you make that dessert even better? Add chocolate syrup and raspberries! That’s kinda like what Pinup Pole Show is; It’s a great thing, with more great things poured on top!!

CANDACE CANE

What did you dream of being when you grew up as a little kid?

As a child, I dreamt of being an astronomer. I had a deep fascination with the stars and space. I loved how vast the universe was and how small we were in comparison.

Does your family come to the show?

My family loves coming to see me perform in the show. My mother has been to almost every show since I’ve been added to the cast and my father just recently started coming along with his partner who is a classic car enthusiast and has won, “Best Car” during our prize giveaway in the show.

Everyone’s favorite vegan spots?

My go-to spots to grub are Veggie Grill, The Vegan Joint, Gracias Madre, VeStation, and Shojin.

Do you work on classic cars and if so, what’s your experience?

I haven’t worked on too many classic cars, but I have installed a radio and changed a tire here and there.

What makes this show different than any that might appear similar?

There is no other show remotely similar to Tonya Kay’s Pinup Pole Show. It is an entity of its own. The theme of pinups and classic cars is apparent in all the acts and is so thoughtfully put together that everyone can enjoy it. It’s entertaining and interactive. Having a cruise in before the show is an epic part the evening.

KATE BERA

What did you dream of being when you grew up as a little kid?

Running away with the circus…✔️

Does your family come to the show?

My pole family does, yes!

Everyone’s favorite vegan spots?

Plant power in San Diego–so quick and convenient, wish they were in LA

VegeNation downtown Las Vegas

What makes this show different than any that might appear similar?

The diversity within the show and within the evening itself– so many different artists coming together in a beautiful collaboration. I’ve been part of all-female casts before, but the respect and love I have for this particular group of ladies is unmatched. It’s always an honor to take the stage with them.
