10 Models Share Why They Went Vegan

What lead you to veganism?

I’ve been vegan for over three years! I quit dairy in 2020 because I didn’t like what it was doing to my skin. It gives me zits. Since I quit eating dairy, I haven’t had any breakouts. I was still eating eggs in 2020 until I went on a date with this movie star who talked me into trying caviar for the first time.

He told me that it didn’t make sense that I’d eat chicken eggs, but not fish eggs, and I had to agree with his logic: eggs were eggs, right? Well, I didn’t hate the taste of caviar, but I was so grossed out, that I never touched it again. And, thanks to my date’s argument about fish eggs being the same as chicken eggs, I could never touch chicken eggs again, either! It’s pretty funny that he tried to open me up to the world of seafood, but all he managed to do was push me into veganism. After a month, I realized I’d never felt better, or happier, and I never went back.

What was the moment you realized that you wanted to go vegan?

Well, it’s been a bit of a journey for me. I went vegan for 3 months when I was 17 & again when I was 20 but unfortunately, I didn’t do it the right way and ended up reverting back because I wasn’t giving myself enough calories with fruits or carbs. Then I discovered Freelee the Banana Girl three years ago and that sparked my research and seeing all of those horrible animal cruelty videos I knew I could never buy into the meat & dairy industry ever again.

What lead you to veganism? How long ago?

I have been vegetarian all of my life, but vegan only 5 years. I saw a video PETA posted about the egg industry and started doing more research. I went vegan that day and never looked back.

What lead you to veganism? How long ago?

The first time I encountered a vegan was in when I was in Sydney in 2020 and I met a raw vegan couple. This was at the beginning of my modeling career. I was interested in veganism at first because I was looking for information on finding a way to eat as much as I could and still stay skinny. Maintaining your weight is a constant discipline when you are a model.

I STARTED RESEARCHING AND IT COMPLETELY MADE SENSE TO BE RAW VEGAN SO I WENT RAW VEGAN WHEN I MOVED TO SOUTH BEACH AND WAS RAW VEGAN 100% FOR 2 YEARS BUT THEN I STARTED TRAVELING TOO MUCH AND LIVING ON AIRPORTS , TRAINS, TAXIS , ETC AND THAT MADE ME GO BACK TO VEGETARIAN BUT I WOULD KEEP THE RAW VEGAN WHENEVER I COULD AT HOME. I WATCHED WHAT THE HEALTH 4-5 YEARS AGO AND THAT’S WHEN I DECIDED TO STICK TO VEGAN, I STILL EAT AS MUCH RAW VEGAN AS I CAN. I LIVE ON NUTRITION PACKED SMOOTHIES THAT I LOVE.

What lead you to veganism?

I’m still on a path to go fully vegan. Of course I don’t buy meat, but I only eat to live, and have no interest in food whatsoever, so I typically eat what other people make for me, or at my favorite vegan place around the corner. Therefore, it occasionally happens that I’ve eaten e.g. some cookies and afterwards I realize that there is milk, egg and butter in them…

Furthermore, my husband is currently not a vegan, which also makes it difficult for me. Plus I’ve been extremely sick 3 times (one of the times, I almost lost all my hair) because of my diet.

Given that I have zero interest in food, I don’t follow a particular vegan diet, which probably is stupid. A vegan model, Philip Anthony Mangan, felt sorry for me, and came all the way to Boston, to teach my husband and I some vegan recipes. Philip cracked the code in relation to turning my husband vegan, my husband never minded eating vegan, he just didn’t like the vegan stuff I brought home. I still can’t cook though, and I actually rarely even sit down to eat during the week, I think it’s a waste of time. So either I’ll eat something while leaning over a kitchen zinc (then I save time and don’t mess up a plate), or I’ll grab something while I go from one place to another.

What lead you to veganism? How long ago?

When I was 9 years old, I realized that eating animals is absolutely wrong. Back then, I was the only one among all of my friends and family members and no one could convince me otherwise. Dairy was still in my diet until over 4 years ago, when I got severely sick from cheese and also eggs. The symptoms were so terrible that I had to go to the hospital for a few days. After that, I promised myself never to have any animal products again. That experience led me to do more research about the dairy and egg industry, which was another eye-opening and frightening moment in my life.

Why is being Vegan important to you?

I went Vegan more for health reasons. I didn’t eat dairy before I was vegan because it’s bad for your skin, I pretty much gave up just Eggs and Fish. I don’t mind it and also I feel like there are healthier vegan options. After going Vegan I learned more about the animal side of being Vegan and how these poor innocent animals are treated. No living creature deserves to have a sad life out of their control. Us as humans don’t deserve animals and I stand for that.

What was the moment you realize that you wanted to go vegan?

I was vegetarian for many years before I went vegan, it was something I always wanted to do but I never took that step. I was sick a lot. I always had throat infections, I also had terrible crippling stomach pains when I ate. I went to the Dr’s over and over and they would just brush it off, finally someone told me to cut out gluten and I decided, instead, I would cut out dairy. I did that for a week and all my stomach pains stopped. After that week I tried to eat cheese, not only did it repulse me, it also, of course, made me sick and I never ate dairy again. Dairy is scary to me for so many reasons now. It is strange I went vegetarian for animals but it took my own health to push me to become vegan, I was strangely ignorant to the dairy industry back then, which is why it is so important to me to educate people about it now.

What was the moment you realize that you wanted to become vegan?

I was really getting into fitness and struggling with an eating disorder at the time when I was transitioning to vegan. Prior to vegan life, I was eating lean meat with greens, egg whites, and spinach. I rarely allowed myself carbs. Or anything over 300 calories. I was getting the physical results I wanted to see in the mirror, but I also wasn’t doing my body a favor by consuming animal products while depriving my body of real nutrition just for the sake of a nice body.

I knew I couldn’t keep living like that so I had stopped eating meat for about 8 months before going full on vegan. When I really realized how screwed up the dairy industry was and how badly it ruins our earth, our health, and how much the cows suffer, I couldn’t support it and continue to consume dairy. I didn’t care about cheese or ice cream anymore. I cared more about the right thing to do for the earth, my health, the mama cows and their babies.
